Furnace Capabilities

Arete has a high-performance, 15' deep x 8' wide x 7-1/2' high, gas-fired furnace ... controlled by the latest in computer control technology. This furnace has many uses, among which are:
  • Burning off paint or other residue to restore the usefulness of expensive carts,
  • Annealing weldments and fabrications to:
    • Relieve stress introduced through previous processing,
    • Improve uniformity by removing the coarseness of grain,
    • Soften steel and improve the machinability ... without reducing the strength.
  • Normalizing steel to:
    • Produce a harder and stronger steel than full annealing,
    • Improve the machinability,
    • Modify and refine the grain structure,
    • Obtain a relatively good ductility ... without reducing the hardness and strength.

Time-Distance Challenge

One of our customers is a major supplier of painted parts to the automotive industry. An internal study of paint usage revealed that more frequent paint rack cleaning improved part paint transfer efficiency. The challenge, a major barrier to the frequency in rack cleaning, was the distance of the rack cleaning supplier. Being responsive to our customer's needs, the customer asked Arete to further analyze the process and consider developing the capability to burn and clean racks.

Arete's Solution

After careful, thorough analysis of the issue and the solution options, the customer was presented with a win-win resolution. The customer was so pleased with Arete's approach they offered a multi-year contract to help justify the capital equipment purchase. We developed the specialized process knowledge to bake and clean these expensive racks, and in addition installed the washbooth capability to remove the burn-off residue.

We have demonstrated an ability to develop specialized expertise that has resulted in Arete's successfully assuming and meeting the cleaning responsibility. Arete's attention to customer needs resulted in the customer seeing an improvement in paint transfer efficiency, in part, because of the increased frequency of the rack cleaning.

The success of this venture resulted in our installing and successfully launched a pickling line to further improve the cleanliness of the paint racks, again ... at the customer's request. Turnaround time on the rack cleaning went from 24 hours to 8 hours. We now provide pickling as a standard service.
